‘Who shall take their final bow?’ by Olivia Taylor

I go to the parties, I smile, I laugh,

But you stand there insulting my uneven path.

Yes, I’m not perfect, but why should I be?

When I put in the effort, just so you can see.

So, what am I for you?

A story to tell?

A laughable topic or a name just to yell?

The truth is I try hard, and you know that I do,

But you’re constantly watching, and you don’t have a clue.

Are you for real? Tell me this is a joke,

As your cruelty follows me, like a cloud of thick smoke.

I try to ignore you, but who are you though?

As you cheat in this race, you think I go slow.

I sink into my hole, my well, my depression,

When all you offer is a counselling session.

You belittle my feelings, you know me too well,

This isn’t fair, I’m not your show or your tell.

You follow me everywhere, above and below,

But your tide to my side like a daunting crow.

But it’s not just a crow, it’s a group, it’s a pack,

A murder they call it, which won’t get off my back.

Why must this darkness be forced upon me?

What have I done? What can’t I see?

Are you for real? Why must you stalk each move?

I wish and I beg for my life to improve.

But you won’t let me do that, you will haunt me till death

You will cloud all my judgment and steal my last breath.

You will always be there, lurking and still,

I will never forget how you stole my free will.

They say to get help, they say to speak up

Your words overflowing my internal cup.

I ask, is this fake or a dream in my head?

But these dreams occur when I’m far from my bed.

Are you for real? What does this gain?

You are haunting my clouded, suffering brain.

But I can’t tell my friends, they won’t get it, their weak,

Plus, I swear their oblivious each time that I speak.

That leaves only one option, I’ll deal with you myself,

As your simply a chapter upon my bookshelf.

I refuse to let you in, this needs to end now,

Let the finale commence, take your final bow.
