‘Up above, down below’ by Jasmine Pitt, age 14, Soham Village College

I’m below, looking up,

Why, I don’t know,

Nothing here is well,

I’m trapped

I’m above the clouds,

Why, I don’t know,

Nothing is here to hurt me,

I’m trapped

I’m below, looking up,

Nothing to worry about,

Nothing to fear,

Nothing looming round the corner,

Nothing to harm me

I’m above the clouds,

Nothing wrong,

Nothing to fear,

Nothing new to explore round the corner,

Nothing here to keep my soul thriving

I’m below, looking up,

This place hurts every person, day in, day out

Always losing,

I need to escape these feelings of fear and grief

Take me to the place I need

I’m above the clouds,

This place is meant to be the thing everyone wants, everyone needs,

Somewhere to reward you for living life,

I miss feeling fear, feeling grief, feeling pure happiness,

Take me to the place I need

I’m below, looking up,

All I want is to leave,

Take my soul,

I need a message.

I’m above the clouds,

All I want is to go back, and take everything life offers,

I took advantage of everything I had,

An endless cycle of everyone not knowing they have something so precious,

They need a message
