Why does it have such power?
Why do we set such store by it?
Why do we let it make or break us?
Why do we hide it sometimes,
And share it others?
We seek the truth because we fear the unknown.
We fear the unknown because the possibilities are endless.
And we like to know what to expect.
We like to know who to trust.
Ancient instinct tells us that the unknown means the possibility of danger.
Modern ideas tell us that the unknown means the possibility of greatness.
Which one do we trust?
Which one is right?
Which one is the truth?
Truth.
That word again.
Truth.
The thing we seek to eliminate fear of the unknown.
Then avoid.
But why?
We avoid the truth because we fear the consequences.
We fear the consequences because there is only one possibility.
And we like to have options.
We like to choose what to do.
Ancient customs tell us that consequences are fair and just.
Modern ways tell us that consequences are up for negotiation.
Which one do we trust?
Which one is right?
Which one is the truth?
Truth.
A vicious cycle.
The thing we seek to eliminate fear of the unknown,
Then avoid to eliminate fear of the consequences.
Why?
Because we are humans.
And humans are a complex species.
We both seek truth,
And avoid it.
Why?
Because we don’t like fear.
And truth brings that in abundance.
But next time you feel scared of the truth,
Tell yourself this:
We don’t always know who to trust,
But that’s what makes life interesting.
We don’t always have options,
But that’s what keeps life under control.
Truth is not a bad thing.
