Dear diary,

Today was my first day of year 6 after the six-week summer holiday. I was a bit nervous but nothing will change as I have all the same friends and I know that I like our new teacher. And so, I headed into school with a big grin and open mind to this new year and what will come with it. I was in the first lesson, my least favourite subject, maths. When I noticed there was a girl with the longest hair I’ve ever seen, she was sitting by herself and when she looked up I realised I had never seen this girl before. SHE WAS NEW! I LOVE MAKING FRIENDS WITH THE NEW PEOPLE! So once maths was finally over I went up to her and asked for her name. She was a shy little girl and didn’t say much but she told much her name was Delilah and she said that she was from London but had to move due to her Mum finding a new job. I was starting to have a conversation when my friends pulled me over to talk to them. They said to me that we shouldn’t involve ourselves with freaks like her. So I decided to accept it and go outside for our break. Looking back at it now I should have said something to stop them being so horrible.

During break it started to rain so me and my group of 9 decided to go in and get our coats. The classroom was empty, but Delilah was sitting at a desk sorting through pencils. I gave her a small smile while walking past. But when we went into the cloakroom my friends started to laugh and snigger. The laughs echoed throughout the classroom. I know that Delilah heard it. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. I mean could you imagine the first day of school and already have people laughing at you. HOW HORRIBLE! I wanted to say something but these people had been my friends since I was in reception and I knew that they didn’t mean it. I mean at least I didn’t join in with the laughing surely that is good enough. RIGHT! And before I knew it break was over, I decided that for the next lesson I was going to sit next to Delilah but as soon as I put my stuff down she immediately turned away and swiftly found a new desk to sit at. I felt so awful I didn’t want her to think that I was laughing at her. I feel so ashamed of myself. I don’t want her to think that I don’t like her. BECAUSE I DO! I WANTED TO BE HER FRIEND. BUT OFF COURSE MY FRIENDS HAD TO RUIN IT I NEVER KNEW HOW MEAN THEY COULD BE. looks like I’m going to have to find some new friends that don’t laugh at people.
