‘the last birthday’ by Ronnie Palmer, Soham Village College

7th Of July

My Birthday

As I was opening my presents from my family, there was a loud, irritating noise coming from everybody’s phone. An alert from the government said ‘DO NOT GO OUTSIDE’. As I was reading it I became more and more curious about what it meant. Why weren’t we allowed to go outside? Then it happened. The extreme shake of the earth made us all fall to the floor, then it went pitch black. I thought I had passed out but I couldn’t because I could still move and I could hear everyone around me. Then it came back on the lights but not our house lights it was the sky that had turned back on. Like someone had flipped a switch and turned it back on. My heart was beating frantically as I was panicking, then we saw it.

Snow,  we saw snow which shouldn’t be possible because it was the start of July so it was summer. We shouldnt be able to see snow for another 3-4 months, but that wasn’t the only strange thing that happened in the distance we could faintly see a tornado type storm, it was horrific and next to that was the sun but it was shining on one part of the planet +and next to that was rain, but it wasn’t normal rain it was like hurricane type weather. I had never seen anything like this before.

I don’t know how long we stood there. It may have been minutes, hours I couldn’t tell I was in shock that my body wasn’t  responding to movement and I was stuck in the moment. My family was too and I can’t blame them, this had never been seen in history. Shortly after we had comprehended what had happened to the planet we realised we were being snowed in. As I rushed everyone out the house they were all still too stunned to move, and I wasn’t shocked either after what had happened.
