‘The effect of words on people’ by Helen Handscombe, Year 9, Soham Village College

Words can hit you like a car,

dragging you along leaving a scar

a painful echo in your head,

a constant reminder of what you said

Words like whispers in the breeze,

carrying rumors through the trees

they come to haunt you in the night,

keeping you up, filling you with fright

Words like thunder in the sky,

strike you like lightning making you cry

Coming for you, tearing you apart

leaving nothing but a broken heart

But after the storm, a calm arrives

a battle you’ve won, a peace in your mind

where wounds of wind begin to mend,

with better days up ahead

Like how nature heals, so does your soul

with time it mends and makes you whole

the world is yours, find your own spark

lead yourself through the dark.
