‘The Border’ by Logan Simpson, Age 14

Why do borders exist?

What is the point of something that blocks people form safety, from something better than what they left?

What’s the point of something that separates the harsh reality and a world of safety, security, hopes and dreams.

What is the point of something that makes a person feel trapped, alone and hurt.

This is the point of the border.

What is the point of something that separates war from wonder.

What is the point of something that separates life from death.

This is the point of the border.

The border blocks people from safety, from something better than what they left.

The border separates the harsh reality and the world of safety, security, hopes and dreams.

The border makes people feel trapped alone and hurt.

The border separates war and wonder.

The border separates life and death.

And people are stuck on the wrong side of the border.

Beyond the border, is safety, hopes, dreams, wonder and life.

And people are blocked from that, by the border.
