‘The Apocalypse’ by Jayden Young, Year 9, Soham Village College

Wakening everyday. Silence. No sound from birds or people. There was no evidence of life… This is how I lived. Every hour I heard a noise from a creature roaming the earth reminding me of the terrors and danger that was out there. My half broken clanking radio playing the same old news record from 16 years ago where they announced the first assassination by this creature. No one knew what it was. I still don’t but I was 100% going to try and kill it.

I knew that I had to do my usual: Put acid on my front step so they couldn’t sense someone was there, test myself to see if I had been infected and make breakfast but it wasn’t long until I heard the infamous sound, the low pitched aggressive sound. That was the call the creature wanted blood…

The creature or whatever it was, has men working for him. They are zombie looking things and they are all the people who have died. My family. Every single one of them. Dead. One bite and you’re gone. I think I’m the only person left but there’s no indication that I am. I’m always living on the edge…
