“Are you for real right now?!”
The shrill shriek echoed through the shopping centre like an army of arrows whistling through the air. The sour tang of cheap perfume clung to that woman in a way nothing else could. She was soaked in that bright pink drink that looked practically inedible which apparently you had spilled on her. She made no attempt to clean it up. And so it continued to slowly trickle down her expensive blouse. The woman continued her bombardment of insults as you stood there, speechless.
“Who do you think you are, you absolute scruff?!”
She continued. She isn’t as perfect as she thinks she is too. Her makeup was melting. Sweat falling down her abnormally large forehead. Eyebrows drawn on so thick that they looked like two caterpillars sleeping on her face. But now everyone else was looking. You couldn’t tell whether it was disgust, horror or maybe even concern. Hundreds of eyes watched her. Not you. Never you.
A sea of whispers washed its way through the food hall. Phones recording. Videos posted. Comments being written. Everyone was watching. But they still weren’t watching you. They were watching the woman who kept on screaming. The woman who wouldn’t shut up. And everything was getting louder. And louder. And louder.
You can’t bear it. The hot ,humid hall was choking you. The smell of that stupid perfume and sweat clouded the air. You could see every phone, every eye, every whisper and every small unbearable detail on that horrendous woman’s face. And she still wouldn’t stop. When will it stop?! It won’t stop! She won’t stop!
And every eye was looking at her. Not you. Because nobody ever saw you. As much as they want to. And that will never change. It should never change.
Because nobody should be able to see a ghost.
So why can she?
