Lana was raised in the boggy, secluded moorland away from the extreme development of technology in the city. She had always dreamt of the city of Azeroth, with extensive opportunities and vibrant life, soon it would become a reality. Lana was nearly an adult and when this happened she would move to Azeroth leaving all she knew for a new life. Lana was not scared, she had always been adventurous and determined which her mother found surprising as her family were not leaders. All past generations had been farmers of the vast fields in Northern Avalon living humble lives. After years of crop failures Lana decided to find a living for her and her family in the city.
The only mode of transport towards the city was by train; new, extravagant systems built by Triton, Avalon’s monarch who had been reigning relentlessly for forty-nine years. Triton was a strong minded, ambitious leader whose decisions had changed Avalon’s wealth and infrastructure exceedingly and led to it being one of the richest nations in the world, but at what cost? Triton had used recent discoveries of capacious oil formations in the south of the country, which was previously uninhabited and a land of boundless biodiversity, to fuel enriching but environmentally damaging projects, which had vast economic profits but left the climate on the brink of collapse.
Lana arrived in Azeroth and on exiting the train was struck with the thick, sickening, smog which, she noticed, coated the city. Lana had not realised the extent of the situation living in her isolated village way up north and was taken aback by the skies darkness, unrecognisable compared to her village. She felt enraged and guilty, all her life she had taken the stability and sanctuary of the environment for granted.
Lana was staying in an apartment with a girl called Astrid. She had auburn hair curled into a messy bun with wild tendrils sprouting from the sides. Her outfit had an artsy flair and she wore big, round glasses. She held her head high and always wore a wide smile. After moving to the city Astrid realised the deceiving truth of Azeroth concealed from the eyes of the nation; she told Lana that Triton’s government was entirely corrupt and not willing to make any changes even though the country was facing devastating effects. Triton’s views and decisions left nearly all in the city poverty stricken and powerless – especially women.
Twenty years ago in Azeroth there had been a revolution. Across the city women had revolted against societal oppression which denied them jobs and rights. It had massively backfired and fuelled the wrath of Triton and led to thousands being imprisoned and killed.
