‘Gluesticks’ by Daniel Abioye, age 14, Soham Village College

I remember when we were all at school.

And we used to throw Gluesticks at the ceilings.

Cause we wanted to and what was she going to do Miss F there’s 30 of and one of you

But then the glues fell down

Fraser’s tears had to dry

I don’t think it was malicious no,

We were just a bit messed up inside

One of us was called Dilly,

Dilly loved Gluesticks dreamed of them day in day out

Dilly was at a party with a girl

Drunken out of her mind

Dilly felt silly so he flicked the lights off

Cause he wanted to

Screaming there’s one of me and none of you

Some things just stick

Some tears never dry

Some wounds never close.

Those of us who knew Dilly were all shocked,

Cause he we don’t think he was malicious no.

He was just a bit messed up inside.

See Dillies aren’t evil,

They’re the result of a failed system.

Guiding discipline on the wrong way,

Schools have discipline.

Some let students walk through the halls

Saying the most misogynistic things

And the teacher would walk over

Telling us to tuck our shirts in.

You see discipline should work not produce bad people.

By the time it was time for Sixth Form,

Majority had sexually assaulted.

You see Dillies aren’t evil,

Just the result of a failed system

People need to be disciplined

Walk those hall flying for all I care,

But when your sat in a pub

Or in a PlayStation Party.

You and your mates think misogyny is a joke

Statically one of your mates ain’t joining
