‘Derailment of Delta’ by Anonymous

Prologue

This tale begins from the day I arrived at Production Sector: Delta. Only the day after I had arrived, the militant leader of the compound had been “Unalived” and a possible perpetrator had yet to be discovered. The station was on high alert.

Even so, my treatment at the station wasn’t a warm welcome, nor a walk in the park. As the newest arrival, I was naturally a suspect, I was the first visitor the station had seen within six months, aside from the usual imports and exports. However, this was by far one of the more welcoming greetings I’ve had over the last [redacted] years. Here I am to introduce the antagonists of this excursion as an example, The Extermination Order. The Extermination Order is a malevolent force hell-bent on wiping out and monopolising anything and everything they see – they aren’t human – and I’ve a sneaking suspicion that they are the remnants of a global disaster lost to the history books. Over two centuries ago, there was an outbreak of a similar force on planet earth, labelled as the “Honkai” It was overcome in the year 2040 by a young “valkyrie” by the name of Kaslana. The Honkai ravaged the planet, leaving nothing but one singular monument standing – Arc City. Even then, it was only sheer luck that Arc City survived.

My apologies, an old man such as myself does ramble on about things relatively often, I should steer us back on track. My point is, that I’ve had run-ins with The Extermination Order before, however, I shan’t bore you with that tale.

Ah! My memory is preceding my manners! I haven’t provided you with my name, a description of myself or Production Sector: Delta! I’ll start with the station description. Production Sector: Delta is one of humanity’s most prosperous manufacturing facilities in the cosmos, hence the label, Delta, meaning a place a river splits into several before flowing into the sea. The facility itself is a collection of asteroid clusters tethered together within a large energy barrier encompassing it all. The larger asteroids are equipped with large habitation modules, containing crew quarters and production zones, each one has at least 5 airlocks sealed by energy barriers with small mining ships weaving in and out of the barrier then circling back with heaps of minerals extracted from the nearby asteroids. The captain’s quarters sit at the top of the cluster from the regular perspective, as one would expect – this is the place where all military and habitation decisions are made. These include lockdown procedures, evacuation procedures, force stops on production zones and destruction sequences. Basically, it’s the administration panel of the entire zone. The next information I shall provide you with is a semi-autobiographical fact file on myself. My name is Xanther, I am a traveller of [redacted] years and have previous experience in many fields of work, my most notable is my years in the mines, these are a compilation of many different contractors throughout [redacted].

Credit for the “Honkai” goes to Hoyoverse.
