The door to my office flings open and I tear my eyes away from my laptop. I had
been working all night on this project. “Just a reminder Miss Carter that your meeting
starts in ten minutes.” My assistant Maya, said.
“Lead the way”, my heels clacked on the marble flooring, my head held high looking
at my employees. They all scurried to get back to their ‘work’ as soon as they saw
me.
“Did you see Mr Romano’s press conference? I admire his dedication” I heard one
employee ask.
“Yes! He’s much better than this woman, she can’t do anything right.” The other
employee rolled his eyes. Anger welled up within me, stomping my way over to the
elevator I hopped in and straightened my suit.
The lift chimed and I waved Maya off. My phone buzzed snapping me out of my
trance. ‘Emily Carter- The owner of a failing empire’, ‘How can Emily Carter run a
multi-billion-dollar company without the help of her dad?’, what nonsense. I arrived at
the meeting room to discuss a potential business deal with the Romanos,
overhearing their conversation, I pressed my ear to the door.
“Sir, the tabloids are calling Miss Carter an incompetent businesswoman- the
company’s profit is significantly decreasing. I don’t think it’s right to go through with,
and close this deal.”
I barge through the door. Mr Romano sat at the head of the table; legs crossed like
he owned the place. I greet him half-heartedly and sat adjacent to him. He nods his
head.
“So, you called me here to discuss potential shares in your company?” His tone
laced with frustration.
“Yes.” I respond stoically. “How do I put this…No?” A chuckle escaped his lips, he
stood up, rather abruptly and headed for the door. “Why?” I leapt out my seat.
“Where do I start Miss Carter? Well, your incompetence regarding your business
handlings are poor, your stocks are plummeting significantly and lastly, you’re
well…you.”
My lips twisted slightly, curving up, I laugh in Mr Romano’s face and swiftly head for
the exit.
I’ll show them all!

The sun peered through my office window as I look at my phone. ‘Emily Carter, the
world’s greatest CEO picks up a failing company.’ I smile.
“Miss Carter, you have a visitor.” Maya announces, swiftly opening the door and
walking out the room. Rage. All I could feel was waves of rage washing over me,
making me tighten my fist.
“Mr Romano.” Gritting my teeth, my eyes pierced holes in his forehead.
“Please, Miss Carter, my company is losing-”
“Get out of my building! I am not interested in your company” I spat in his face.
“Why?” I chuckle at his response.
“Where do I start Mr Romano. You are a sexist, self-centred, poor excuse of a
businessman. Get out of my company!” I smirk at him whilst he was begging on his
knees and threw him out.
