‘Beyond the Horizon’ by Deborah Akinrefon, Age 14, Year 9, Thomas Clarkson Academy

In shadows cast by turmoil’s might,

A refugee emerged into the night,

They embarked on a journey, full of might.

Through treacherous paths, they tread alone,

Defying the barriers, the walls, the stone,

They carried resilience, a strength unknown.

Without doubt, they had much fear,

Listening attentively with their ears,

Told never, to shed a tear.

With each step forward, they found their voice,

From shattered dreams, they built a choice,

They rose above the chaos, they rejoiced.

In the face of adversity, they found their way,

The refugee, a survivor against all they stay

A symbol of resilience, on their path they sway.
