I cling to my mother,
The train stops at the station,
The guard approaches,
Fear runs through me,
“Welcome to England”
Those words and nothing more.
Twenty years later,
2014,
A knock on the door and a harsh one at that,
The voice behind it cries,
“Leave go back to your country”
These words and no more.
“Bring your documents”
I push my way forward,
I stand at the desk,
“What are you doing?”
“These people don’t belong here!”
“Yes they do”
Pushed through a door,
Forced onto a boat,
With only one thing on my mind,
“I thought I was safe!”
Only this and nothing else!
