My eyes flutter open,
It’s a beautiful bright day
Summer, a splendid season,
The best even, dare I say.
A day to look forward to,
The birds’ ecstatic tweets,
Not only that but the pigeon coos,
A day which is curt and neat.
But wait. Thud. Thud. Thud.
An avalanche from each cloud,
White bullets to my blood,
Assembling a dark shroud.
My face falls,
The sparrows call,
A chill in the halls,
The insects crawl.
The heavy burden, broken,
The worries wash away,
My flowers have spoken,
Distraught from the eternal gray.
Sharp hits to each petal,
Their cries for my care,
Is the damage fatal?
Perishing in the unforgiving air.
Where did the Sun go?
Pulling on the sides of my face,
My children under a radiant glow,
Now left without a trace.
A cruel and sudden twist of fate,
Locking away the dazzling star,
Slamming the golden gate,
Forcing it to watch us afar.
The warmth that seemed so certain,
The joy that seemed so immortal,
Now a promise made in vain,
Thrown into a melancholy portal.
Hidden by a thick curtain,
A penetrating jab,
Of the cold, relentless rain,
Our glee , it tries to grab.
Seasons shall turn,
Times where the sun shall burn.
The soil will relearn,
I watch the heavy storm,
A warm embrace shall arrive,
Don’t you worry, you’ll thrive.
Droplets adorn each leaf,
Beautiful, I believe.
My eyes blink,
Reassurance I should feel,
But I can’t help but say,
Are you for real?
