Shadowy fog panned out as heavenly light flickered, signalling Jo to slowly awake from his slumber. The fog slowly thinned out and the noises grew, consciousness crawled back whilst realisation flew at him like a bullet. This wasn’t the plan. Where was he?
“Damned company, something went wrong didn’t it, where am I?!” Jo shouted in a weary voice.
He was exhausted, by looking at all the equipment beside him something must’ve gone wrong, very wrong. Finally recognising the situation, Jo tore the delicate wires from his battered arm that entangled his chest in a spider web-like shape. He bolted for the door, only to collide with a wall where the door should’ve been. Dazed by such a powerful force, Jo started to spin uncontrollably, stumbling side to side until his legs finally gave in, making him feel as if he’s almost…about…to…pass…out.
“System Reboot” a voice chanted from the distant.
Gasping for air, memories flooded Jo’s mind as the lights had dazed him once more, however this time it was different. A nurse was there, one with a soft and angelic face. The kindest expression greeted him as she tried to help him up.
She spoke, “Are you quite alright sir?”, with words that felt like a radiant sun shone down over him.
“What happened, why am I here?” Jo asked.
“All of your questions will be answered in time, but for now you look as if death knocked at your door.”
Jo let out a false chuckle, almost wondering if it might’ve been true, however it was not something he wondered for too long. When Jay stabilised, he followed the nurse where his questions would supposedly be answered. On the way there Jo remembered something, that name of that company, it was NeuroSync, that common insignia was across every wall; he was confused, why was he here, what went down that day that caused all of this? But as the never-ending corridors narrowed, he saw those who stood before him and he remembered. They were those who opposed him that day, those who killed his friends.
“Absolute cowards, what did you do to me?!” he bellowed.
Met with silence, Jo snapped. He primed iron aimed right for the skull but as fast as he pulled the trigger there was a faint cut noise that almost felt serene, until Jo looked down only to fall into his own blood-stained shadow.
“System Reboot” the voice echoed.
As his eyes opened to see the light once more, he knew this was the final time. The sweet and angelic face of the nurse stood before him with a warped look of discontent, one that sent shivers down his spine. He knew it wasn’t the full end of this hell as he would be revived once more, but would he even be the same anymore? All these thoughts rushed through Jo’s mind as the world started to fade, he only wished he got to…say…goodbye…
“System Wipe” the voice echoed once more.
