‘Are You For Real?’ by Freya, Year 9, Penwortham Girls’ High School

I was laying in bed scrolling through social media, before I was about to go to sleep ,when I saw a video saying if you put two mirrors opposite each other and touch one you can transport to a different universe. The universe could be good, could be bad. I decided it might be fun and I tried it, to no ones surprise it didn’t work. I decided to go to sleep as I was tired, but I didn’t wake up in my bed… I found myself in a super-market. I walked around, no one. I tried to find a exit there was no exit, no walls, no ceiling. It was like being in a abyss but however far I walked there was just shelves, it never stopped. I could walk for miles and its just the same layout over and over again. After walking for hours I find someone “a human!” I scream, she runs up to me “hi” her voice eerily calm. “What’s your name?” the girl asks me. I’m hesitant to answer but I cant give up a chance of making  a friend in this place “Emily, what’s yours?” I say to the mysterious girl.

“I don’t usually tell people my name, but its not like anyone else is in here.” She speaks like shes trying to convince herself. “I’m Abigale.” She sighs. I’m confused but I think Abigale might just be shy. “Okay Abigale. How about you help me find us beds so we can go to sleep?” I ask hopefully. She reluctantly agrees after thirty minutes of looking around we find some mattresses and we go to sleep for the night. In the night I wake up to Abigale. She stands infront of me a faceless expression, yet a terrifying smile. “Shh go back to sleep.” But before I have the chance to say anything I wake up… again? Was it just a dream? I see Abigale sleeping next to me. A sigh of relief escapes my mouth. An hour later Abigale wakes up. We decide to try and find a exit. While looking around Abigale finds a key “Emily! I found something! It looks like a key to get out!” She says happier than usual. We decide to split up to find the exit faster and after hours I find one. “Abigale!” I scream, no response. I scream it again. Still no response. “I found a exit!”  then I see her. Yet its like shes flickering. One second I can see her next second I cant. “never trust a stranger” she says “especially one who’s not real.” Abigale has a terrifying grin on her face, moments later I wake up on the couch at home to my mum sitting next to me. “your awake. You’ve been screaming in your sleep for a while but you wouldn’t wake up.” I try to speak but no words come out than Abigale appears infront of me. I scream a blood curdling scream. Yet, no one was there.
