‘Are you for real?’ by Eadie Mann, Year 9

The lighting is dark and so is the night.

Humans would be scared; tonight there’s no fright.

The wind keeps blowing,

And the birds keep chirping,

Time ticks on; our clocks are working

But our brains aren’t.

To live: to breathe.

We don’t do that anymore.

Life is a strange feeling,

A concept from long ago.

Humans didn’t realise time was peeling

Them away from it. Once these things were puppets for show,

Intelligence at best. Man’s new best friend.

Now they live for us – instead of us.

Is this the end?

It may well be.

Because water is lost day by day.

300,000 gallons of water a day.

The water no longer has its sway.

And we were told not to fear

But now the problem creeps near.

The environment gets poorer

And they just don’t care

Time is ticking. Time is ticking.

Your clean water is gone.

Forever.

But it helps us humans, no?

It’ll make us smarter, no?

Making us more organised, no?

Our ecosystems are dying,

Our world is frying.

Our lives are almost over.

Are you being for real?
