‘Are you for real?’ by Chloe Livesey, Year 10, Penwortham Girls’ High School

Behind every social media post is a young person who only craves to fit in,

People who sit there wishing they were someone who came up on their for you page,

They can feel like they are trapped in a cage,

All because they believed what they saw on their phones,

Now they sit silently in embarrassment and shame,

As they trade their colours for a filtered shade of grey,

The mirror becomes an enemy, a judge they cannot please,

However it is only themself that is the judge,

They chase a perfect image that doesn’t even exist,

Adding another edited photo to the list,

But behind the glowing glass, a real heart still beats,

Tired of endless scrolling and the word ‘perfect’,

They forget that social media is fake and no one is perfect.
