‘A story’ by Tahlia Banks-Davidson, age 14, Year 9

When I was a little girl all I dreamt of was being able to make a change and help our planet be the best it could be. I worked hard at school and achieved high grades. My parents were very proud of me. This wasn’t enough as for the dreams and the hopes I had in my head held great power in my decisions.

One day this power led for such a little girl like me to think of something unimaginable. A theory that not even Albert Einstein himself could ever think up. This all happened whilst I was just sitting in my science class at the age of 6 years old, listening to how we are supposed to read a clock. I already knew how to do this so I let my mind wander. The next minute I knew I was standing in front of the entire class explaining what I had just thought of.

In my speech, I explained that some people believe that school days take a long time and some believe they take a short amount of time. Then I carried on to explain to my entire year 1 class that I thought people travelled through time at different paces. That everyone basically had their own body clock and depending on the day and how much sleep they had, the day could go quicker or slower.

Now as I said I explained this to a very not academic year 1 class that only just knew how to tell the time, yet alone knew the ethics and morals of it. So as you could imagine when my long speech had finished some had fallen asleep and some were staring at me with a very confused look splayed across their face. My teacher on the other hand was looking at me in shock wondering how at such a young age I could come up with such a theory. She took me to the head teacher whilst most of the class was silent and asleep.

When I stepped foot into my head teacher’s office her face lit up. It was like she already knew what had happened, like she travelled in time like my theory. Anyway my teacher went on to tell her all about my ideas and I was just made to stand there for an hour to be looked at by the ladies in the office and applauded for something that may not even be true. I was yet to test out my theory but I had no way to go about it.

Several years had passed and I was 14 standing on the stage collecting a Nobel Prize for Physics. Within the 8 years between when I came up with the theory and now I had proved it to be correct and collected several awards along the way. My biggest achievement being winning a Nobel Prize of course. I could never be prouder. Still though this isn’t enough for me I want to achieve bigger and better things. There is more to come for me I know.
