‘Sunshine Through the Rain’ by Leja Draskinyte, age 14, Year 9, Thomas Clarkson Academy

Thinking this day would be almost perfect, was an understatement. The birds were singing a beautiful melody, the sun was shining, and flowers were blooming, it was almost the perfect day. It was 7:30 am when my mum called me down for breakfast, I heard her voice echo up the stairs as she called for me again. I still had one minute left to brush my teeth when I heard the all too familiar stomping of my mum. I rush down the stairs still trying to brush my teeth and put on my jumper, as I reach the last step. I slip face first hitting my head on the wooden floor, but I had no time to complain as my mum was already getting angry again. I leap back up, sprinting to the kitchen before she became angry. As I enter the kitchen an arrange of fruits and cereals are placed across the table.

I rush to sit down as I’m already late, I stare at the table not knowing what I want first, I grab a handful of blueberries and strawberries mixing them into a bowl, I quickly make a cup of tea and sit back down, the bus was almost at my house I had to be fast. This was the latest I had ever been to school, as I finish my bowl of fruit, I hear the bus screech Infront of my house, I only had 5 minutes before it drove off. I still had so much to do, I ran upstairs grabbing my pe kit scrambling to put my pe uniform inside. As I’m finally about to leave the house I realise I left my phone and keys on the table, I rush over to the table, but I couldn’t find them anywhere.

At this point the bus is about to leave, and I still couldn’t find my phone, I tried to think where I moved them, but I couldn’t, I see my mum cleaning the kitchen when I realise, they are in her pocket, I try to take them out but fail. I ask her, “Mum I need my phone and keys the bus is leaving.” but it was no use as she had her headphones in, I try again” Mum, I need them or I’m going to be late” , she still wouldn’t acknowledge me so i tried one more things it took her headphones out hoping she would give me my things sol i could catch the bus, it was then when I realised it just drove off, I stare at her blankly .

Her face turns cherry red as she yells, “Are you for real” , I run after my mum to our car she was not going to let me be late to school  as we leave the house a line of traffic appears Infront of my house, after thirty minutes we finally reach my school , I rush out the car to the main office.
