‘Danger’s embrace’ by Leon Godfrey, Year 9

From the depths of the oceans,

To the mountains of Mars,

And the secrets of the jungles,

Through the tears and the scars.

In the depths of the ocean,

Where only the tough survive,

Where jellyfish and whales

Should be the ones who dive.

And yet we explore;

We jump, we swim, and we thrive.

On the mountains of Mars

There’s nothing, no air, no grass and no trees,

But there’s so much more,

(at least that’s what I believe)

So still we explore,

Sending robots and rockets flown with such ease.

From the secrets of the jungle,

Where the lions and the tigers all roam,

where pythons and hippos,

All decide they call home.

And still we explore,

With brave spirits who are beaten, right down to the bone.

And yet in our list of dangerous places

The most dangerous we can’t yet explore.

For the world we ourselves are creating

Is the most scary and dangerous of all.
