‘Was This My Last?’ by Mailee Webb, age 13, Soham Village College

As silent as a graveyard, with sheds of tears.

No one dares step out due to pure fear.

Hope like a flickering candle,

Everyone was doing their best to handle.

The streets were mazes of fears,

As the bombs got horrifyingly near.

A blanket of smoke and gas,

Was this my last?..

Voices like distant thunder,

Could I possibly do a runner?

This is as chaotic as a stormy sea,

Would I have to flee?

It is a never ending nightmare,

Make sure you’re aware.

Leaving my family behind,

This was so unkind..Goodbye..
